KJ Yesudas - The Singer with a Godly Voice

KJ Yesudas - The Singer with a Godly Voice
Imagine that you are listening to a song sung by a person with a Godly Voice. You would start to imagine the fact that you are listening to God who is speaking to you. There is only one person who has that Godly Voice and that has to be none other than Dr. KJ Yesudas.

Kattesery Joseph Yesudas was born on January 10th 1940 to a musically inclined Christian family. His father Augustin Joseph was a musician and stage artist. He started learning music from a family friend and also from Chembai a legendary singer.

Yesudas started his career in 1961 with a song called jathi matham by singing 4 lines written by Narayana Guru. Since then he started singing many songs in a versatile manner.

Dasettan sang in many languages and genres ranging from sentimental, devotional and romantic songs. He sang not just Christian songs but also was credited with singing hindu devotional songs and mapilla paatukal. This showed that he was a spiritual and secular singer.

He sang many songs composed by music maestros ranging from Devarajan Master, Arjunan Master, Jerry Amaldev, Ouseppachan, Gopi Sundar and MG Radhakrishnan in Mollywood.

In Kollywood, he also sang under Ilayaraja, Deva, AR Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja and D Imman as well as Anirudh Ravichander.

He also popularised a lullaby called Harivarasanam for Swami Ayyapan. He had such a musical bonding with another contemporary SPB.

Dasettan became the voice for many heroes and also occasionally acted in movies. He played Tansen in Anarkali a malayalam movie in 1966.

He became a cultural icon in Kerala but still remains as a student who learns more about music. Dasetta, we love you.

My Retrospective on D.Imman

My Retrospective on D. Imman It all started in January 24, 1983 when J. David Kirubbakara Dass and his wife Manjula were blessed with a young child. He would grow up to become the Big Brother of the Music World. To say it in Tamil, He is Isai ulagathil Annatthe D. Imman. When so many of his friends used to go to school and return home to do homework and play, D Imman would head to the studio straight from school where he started working. He was a great musician who had been influenced by Ilayaraja and A.R Rahman. When the Roja Album released, the songs that Imman listened to when he was 9 had such a big influence on him. He started out as a keyboard player working with K-Town's Underrated Legends such as Adithyan Master and Mahesh Mahadevan. His luck came when his tunes caught the ears of TV Baroness, Kutty Padmini who brought him under her wing to compose for small screen soap dramas produced by Sun Network. Krishnadasi saw Industry Veteran Gemini Ganesan in his last screen appear...

My Retrospective on Harris Jayaraj

My Retrospective on Harris Jayaraj Once upon a time,  there lived a musical ghost. He was known for bringing in melodies that left us in awe of his music style but is now struggling to stay relevant in today's times. That guy's name is Harris Jayaraj. Harris started out as an assistant musician for many films until 2001 where his talent had signed. He signed up with a young debutant named Gautham Vasudev Menon for a musical romance named Minnale. The songs that he produced turned out to be a hit and brought him close to the masses. Since then Harris never looked back. He composed for many films from 2000s- 2010s thus being dubbed the Harris Era. Harris Jayaraj entered at that time when Ilayaraja's career had witnessed a slowdown and A.R Rahman was going all out in other industries. Yuvan Shankar Raja had also branched out and made himself the man to go for Remixes. Harris had composed songs and bgms that stayed with us when it came to melodies. His discographies spoke volum...
